The moon's phases hold immense spiritual meaning to many, and the vibrant light and color they bring to the night sky is a wonder to behold. As the moon enters its once-monthly waxing crescent phase, you may wonder what the universe has in store for you during this period.

As more people become interested in the moon's phases for astrological reasons, it's likely no surprise that there is more than one interpretation of phase meanings. According to the New York-based Kopernik Observatory & Science Center, the waxing crescent marks the second of the moon's phases. Per NASA, the moon rises incrementally later in this phase. It is called a "waxing crescent" because the visible portion of the moon resembles a crescent.

Also, "waxing" in this context refers to increasing. Per Study.com, the moon's illuminated portion continues to grow increasingly more visible between the new moon and full moon phases.
