Candid and sensible green living advice since 1999.

about

Greenmatters.com was launched in 1999 by bestselling green author and green guru Crissy Trask. But back then, Crissy was not yet an author, and she wasn’t a guru yet, except to her circle of friends and family who where more curious than serious when it came to learning from her green habits–which included making her own natural cleaning products, biking to work (rain or shine) and fervent reuse. In addition, while Crissy’s peers were reading Cosmo, she was reading magazines like Earth Island Journal and Mother Earth. (OK, so she has read a Cosmo or two!) Those magazines drove the message home that this planet was in an increasingly tenuous state, and she knew that this was a critical time to change careless choices and wasteful habits that were harming the earth. Unfortunately, she saw little evidence that people had gotten the same message, and she was growing more and more frustrated with the lack of environmental stewardship she witnessed from the general public.

In the face of so much evidence that we needed to do better and so many ways in which we could do better, it didn’t make sense that people weren’t doing more, until she determined, in her infinite wisdom (so she thought), that people weren’t doing more because they didn’t recognize all their day-to-day and purchase-to-purchase opportunities to effect positive change in the world. That was it! Crissy decided to build a website that would acquaint people with the cause and effect of their actions, and provide well-researched, comprehensive and practical advice for creating a home and lifestyle that had a lighter impact.

In that pre-21st century internet, which was anemic on the subject of green living, Crissy created Greenmatters.com as a resource for busy, modern people looking for useful information on going green, practical green tips and trustworthy sources for earth-friendly products. Green Matters has gone through major redesigns and reorganizations since its beginnings in 1999, and some of its original features and focus have changed. Today, with a goal of teaching the wisdom and accessibility of greener living, Greenmatters.com educates, inspires and sometimes provokes through the Green Matters blog, videos and an ever-expanding index of green tips and resources for more enlightened living.
